Releazing Alexandra
The Memoir of a Woman Who Set Herself Free
Sandy and I have co-authored this book. The seeds for this memoir were planted during the pandemic. With both of us retired and in our seventies, we were in the demographic most at risk during those months. We had time on our hands. As we reminisced, we decided to write her autobiography. I became her ghost writer. Initially, it was written primarily for our families.
However, input from outside the family suggested that her story would make a good memoir. At first we weren’t interested, but over time we warmed to the idea. Releasing Alexandra is the result. This is a story of self-discovery. Sandy was the product of a perfect storm of circumstances.
She was genetically predisposed to be an overly anxious person with an innately shy nature. Her mother was loving but was also a no nonsense type person. All three of those things led her to suppress a lot of her childhood and adolescent emotions. Withdrawal became her coping mechanism. The result was that Sandy carried a lot of pent-up emotional baggage into her adulthood. We married very early and it was through me and my enlistment into the Air Force that the release of an heretofore unknown persona began. We named this free-spirited alter ego, Alexandra. Being away from home in the Air Force for five years, let Alexandra continue to emerge over time. We returned home with Alexandra a fully integrated part of who my beautiful wife had become. Enjoy the read!
About The Authors
Sandy and Lee J. co-authored her memoir that chronicles her struggles to overcome her painful shyness and high functioning anxiety as a child. Her suppression of many of her normal childhood emotions hid a persona deep within her psyche that only emerged after their marriage.
Their time in the Air Force as he became a fighter pilot and she served as an officer’s wife allowed her to discover the persona that she was completely unaware even existed. The emergence of the persona they named Alexandra coupled with their story of true love and devotion is an inspiring narrative.

Bravo to Sandy for having the desire, and courage, to share this heart-warming and exciting story of a young woman who refused to live her life adhering to the stifling societal moral codes of the 1950's and 1960's, and the unrealistic dos and don'ts of sexual activity that destroyed so many relationships that could have been very special and lasting. Sandy's determination to live her life, on her terms, is refreshing. Even more refreshing to know that her husband, Lee J., supported her all the way. Thank you, Sandy, for your story; truly heartwarming, empowering, and at times, humorous. A must read for all women , and men!

The prologue immediately drew me in as I could relate to her and her desire to be free. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. I loved how the end of the prologue it introduced the title of the memoir and instantly made me feel connected to the story and family. I feel I could relate to her on a deeper level due to my own issues and striffs with my mother and her controlling tendencies. It was like I was walking alongside her on the beach and digging deeper into my emotional and mental anguish to begin the journey of healing.

At the heart of this memoir is the love story of 2 people & the strength & freedom it gave one woman. I believe it speaks to the importance of a loving & supportive partner in life. Alexandra’s story is inspiring, humorous, engaging & authentic. I would recommend it to anyone who’s struggled with anxiety, lack of confidence or feeling bound by the expectations of others. It’s definitely worth the read.
